Let's Go: Beggars of the Savior

Mark 5:1–21

I. Selfish Begging (Mark 5:1-13)

Genesis 1:26–27 – “26 Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’ 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.”

Hebrews 1:14 - “Are they not all ministering spirits sent out to serve for the sake of those who are to inherit salvation?”

Luke 5:8 – “But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.””

Psalm 57:2 – “I cry out to God Most High, to God who fulfills his purpose for me.”

Luke 6:35 – “But love your enemies, and do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return, and your reward will be great, and you will be sons of the Most High, for he is kind to the ungrateful and the evil.”

James 2:19 – “You believe that God is one; you do well. Even the demons believe—and shudder!”

Matthew 26:53 – “Do you think that I cannot appeal to my Father, and he will at once send me more than twelve legions of angels?”

Revelation 20:10 – “and the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the lake of fire and sulfur where the beast and the false prophet were, and they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.”

Deuteronomy 29:29 – “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.”

Romans 9:20 – “But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, ‘Why have you made me like this?’”

II. Confused Begging (Mark 5:14-17)

Isaiah 41:10 - “fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

John 1:11 - “He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him.”

III. Thankful Begging (Mark 5:18)

Acts 16:17 – “She followed Paul and us, crying out, “These men are servants of the Most High God, who proclaim to you the way of salvation.””

Psalm 66:16 – “Come and hear, all you who fear God, and I will tell what he has done for my soul.”

IV. Thankfulness leads to Telling Others (Mark 5:19-20)

5. Why does demonic activity ultimately lead to suicidal despair? Why is Jesus the only decisive answer to such despair?

10. Describe a scenario where Jesus might change someone you know so that they would once again be in their right mind. Pray for that person.
